SPORTS FLOOR INSTALLATION

NEW, SAFER SPORTS FLOOR FOR THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH IN LODI, CA

The First Baptist Church in Lodi, CA was looking for an upgrade in their multi-purpose room and came to us for some ideas. They were playing various sports and holding church functions on a concrete surface. They needed something more comfortable for their players and patrons.

Project: First Baptist Church
Segment: Sports, gym, fitness floor for a community building
Location: Lodi, CA
Product: Gerflor Recreation 60

We had to get this done during their holiday break so they could get back to playing sports and hosting events after New Year’s. We had to plan each day to ensure we would finish on time. There was no room for error.
— Jon Miller, Project Manager

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Installed 8000sf. of Gerflor Recreation 60 rolled sports flooring in the church gym/multi-purpose room

  • Provided students and staff with a safe playing surface for a variety of games and events

  • Did this over the winter break to minimize disruption to the church and their events

Solution: Something soft and comfortable

Gerflor's Recreation 60 provides the most cushion in their line up. This would certainly be an upgrade from the old concrete surface.

Challenge: Existing Concrete Floors

First Baptist was ready for a new gym floor. They played both basketball and volleyball on the old concrete surface. They even hosted large church events Concrete was certainly not a forgiving surface to play on and it had become worn out.

Solution: Have a plan

Our factory trained installers worked with precision and speed to ensure the floor was installed with accuracy. Our Project Manager Jon Miller set goals for completion each day to ensure the project stayed on track.

Challenge: Tight Timing

With the school closed during the holiday break, we had a week to get a new sports floor installed and be ready to go before basketball started back up after the new year.

Installation

The installation involved many different aspects that included the following:

  • Prepping the old concrete to ensure the surface underneath was flat

  • Applying the adhesive and using rollers to ensure there was a solid bond

  • Seaming and welding to create tight joints

  • Installing base and transitions around the perimeter and in the doorways

  • Lastly, painting the lines to give it the finished look

RESULTS

The church was happy to say goodbye to the old concrete and welcome in a more comfortable playing and entertaining surface. We were so excited about the project, we created a video so you could see the results from start to finish. Check it out.
